On November 26, 2016 we lost a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend. In the belief that we can help others through educating children and parents about the dangers of drug use and the disease of addiction we founded The MDS Foundation.
On September 26th we host the 10th annual and last for now, KICK IT For Mike Cornhole Tournament. The money raised will benefit educational programs throughout Pittsburgh. These programs provide top notch, professional educators and health professionals to work with children and parents about the science of drug addiction. They focus specifically in our backyards and in small group settings where help is so needed.
They include but are not limited to:
The Matilda Theiss Center: In late January 2023 the Matilda Theiss Center opened a new facility in the South Side of Pittsburgh. The Michael Douglas Scichilone gym was unveiled as a space for children to work on gross motor skills and play. This project has been the most significant gift of the Foundation to date.
Since the 1960s, the Matilda H. Theiss Health Center has provided primary health care for people of all ages, including uninsured patients. In addition, The Theiss Center provides a variety of social counseling and health promotion services.
Propel Schools: Propel Schools, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a not-for-profit federation of charter schools dedicated to catalyzing the transformation of public education so that all children have access to high-performing public schools. Each of our schools provides a rigorous academic environment but one where the education can be personalized so that scholars are prepared for the future, whether they choose a career path or college. In the past two years we have donated over $40,000 in scholarships to Propel graduates to attend technical & trade schools in Michael's name.
If you cannot make the event but would like to make a donation please follow the purchase ticket link. There is a donation option at the bottom of the page.
In the past 9 years we have raised over $275,000!
THANK YOU for all of your support! We look forward to making this a successful event year after year and to make a positive impact Michael would be proud to be a part of.
Love Pam, Meghan, Emily, Shaun & Cash
